More On Relaxing
When we relax we tend to do the opposite of tensing-up: We loosen our muscles. The question is: Can we stand, walk, bend down, play a musical instrument, etc while our muscles are loose? How can we use a spoon or a fork while eating without holding our hands and fingers so that we can hold that spoon or fork? How can we climb up the stairs if our legs are loose? The time when we’re completely relaxed is when being asleep. However we can’t afford to relax this way while being awake.
The Alexander Technique teaches us how to use our body in such a way that the over-tensed muscles will get to release the unnecessary tension, and the under-tensed muscles will get to work a little more, so that our musculoskeletal system will function in the right Tone, and our whole body will move with more ease, and less effort.
